More than a third of non-doms threaten to quit UK
25-Feb-2008Over a third (37%) of non-domiciled UK residents plan to either leave within a year of the proposed changes to the tax treatment of non-doms coming into force or before they have notched up seven years of UK residency, according to a survey conducted by the Chartered Financial Analysts Society of the UK.
Almost half (48%) were not sure what they would do because the final nature of the regulation is not yet known, but more than four-fifths think that the proposed changes in tax treatment for non-doms in the UK will hurt London's reputation as a global financial centre.
Of the 591 CFA UK members (about 10%) who responded to the e-mail survey, 312 said they currently claim non-dom status in the UK for tax purposes. And 27% of those non-doms said they would not have come to the UK had the proposed regime already been in place.
