Sovereign Group (Mauritius) Limited is looking to recruit a part time Health and Safety Officer to form part of their team.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- To facilitate compliance with legislation related to Occupational Safety and Health at Sovereign
- To carry out regular occupational safety and health audits to identify risks to safety and health
- To assess the need for preventive measures to safeguard the safety and health of employees and visitors
- To advise the management in writing on practicable measures and appropriate techniques to be implemented to minimise any risk in any process in the undertaking
- To design and implement appropriate training programmes to meet the requirements of the OSHA and any other enactment dealing with occupational safety and health, and keep proper records thereof
- To develop and review any measure, method, procedure, or technique adopted to ensure occupational safety and health at intervals as the Permanent Secretary may direct in writing and keep proper records thereof
- To carry out regular occupational safety and health audits to identify risks to safety and health and recommend in writing to the Sovereign Management appropriate occupational safety and health programmes
- To develop effective communication systems on occupational safety and health between the Management and staff
- To inspect all places of work under Sovereign compound at least once every month and record all findings
- To formulate policies relating to safety and health and ensure an appropriate mechanism for the effective planning, organising, controlling, monitoring, and reviewing of preventive and protective measures are established
- To exercise adequate supervision to ensure the effective implementation of arrangements made, and preventive measures taken, by Sovereign
- To enquire into—
- all complaints made by staff.
- occupational accidents and dangerous occurrences at any place of work and make a report thereon, and recommend in writing any safety and health measures to be implemented by Sovereign
- To perform any such other cognate duties
Qualifications
- A diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Occupational Safety and Health Management from a recognized institution or an equivalent qualification
- A minimum of 3 years of experience
- Excellent verbal, written communication, IT and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritise and manage own workload
- Ability to manage Safety & Health related issues with minimum supervision
