EU, EEA, and Swiss nationals enjoy the right to free movement and residence in Cyprus, meaning those who wish establish Cyprus as their primary place of residence, can do so through an application for the Cyprus MEU1 Registration Certificate.

Informally known as the ‘Yellow Slip’, it has no expiry date, and provides the holder the following benefits:

The right to reside in, leave and re-enter Cyprus at will.
Full employment rights, either through employment or to engage in local business activities.
Registration with GESY, the Cypriot national health system.

Qualifications Categories and Requirements

A legal requirement for those who intend to stay in Cyprus for more than 90 days, applicants are required to provide proof of accommodation in the form of a rental agreement valid for at least one year, a property title deed, or a utility bill in Cyprus.

The must also demonstrate they meet the terms of one of the following qualification categories:

Retirees / Economically Inactive Persons: Proof of stable, regular financial resources or foreign pension/bank statements, coupled with comprehensive private health insurance covering medical repatriation.

Self-Employed Persons: Company registration documents, tax identification evidence, proof of active business operations

Employed Workers: Signed employment contract or employer confirmation letter, plus registration with the Social Insurance Services.

Students: Confirmation of enrolment at a recognized educational institution in Cyprus, proof of comprehensive health insurance, and a declaration or evidence of financial self-sufficiency.
