Compliance Officer

Job Purpose

The Compliance Officer will support the Sovereign Wealth compliance function by helping to ensure the business operates in accordance with Gibraltar’s regulatory and legislative requirements. Working closely with the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), the successful candidate will assist with monitoring compliance, conducting due diligence, managing regulatory processes, and supporting the ongoing development of a robust compliance framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct client due diligence (CDD/EDD), risk assessments, and compliance checks for new business relationships.
  • Perform periodic reviews and ongoing risk assessments of existing client relationships in line with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Support the account closure process, ensuring all compliance checks, documentation, and approvals are completed.
  • Assist with the assessment and management of trigger events, including client, regulatory, and risk-related notifications.
  • Support the delivery of the Compliance Monitoring Programme by carrying out testing, documenting findings, and making recommendations.
  • Conduct sanctions screening and assist with ongoing AML/CFT/CPF monitoring activities.
  • Review and investigate sanctions screening alerts, ensuring false positives are accurately assessed, documented, and resolved.
  • Provide administrative and analytical support to the MLRO, including preparing compliance reports and management information.
  • Maintain and monitor staff compliance obligations, including CPD records and mandatory training completion.
  • Establish and maintain Terms of Business arrangements with investment managers, platforms, and other third-party providers.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the business to provide an effective and coordinated compliance service.

 

Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience in a compliance role is desirable.
  • Good understanding of AML/CFT/CPF regulations and regulatory requirements.
  • Holds a relevant compliance qualification or is willing to work towards one.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proactive approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to keep up to date with regulatory developments and industry best practice.
