The Sovereign Art Foundation Students Prize returns to Guernsey for the sixth year

Sovereign Guernsey is delighted to announce the return of the Sovereign Art Foundation Students Prize for the sixth year. It is open to all students who are enrolled at a secondary institution in the Bailiwick of Guernsey and are nominated by a member of staff. Individual entrants of secondary school age may also apply to enter by contacting SAFGuernsey@sovereigngroup.com. Entries close on 15 September.

All artworks will be viewed online by a judging panel consisting of local art professionals, who will announce a shortlist of 20 Finalists on 1 October. These works will then be exhibited at five locations around the Bailiwick from 22 October to 13 December.

The judges will attend for a second round of voting, in person, to select the winner of the Judges’ Prize. Throughout the course of the exhibition, the public will be able to vote (live and online). The entry having received the most votes from the public will be awarded the Public Prize.

The prize winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 14 December. The winners of the Judges’ and Public prizes will receive £800 (plus £2,000 for their school) and £400 (plus £1,000 for their school) respectively and will also automatically be enrolled into The Sovereign Art Foundation Global Students Prize.

An online exhibition of all winners’ works, from each of the countries in which the competition runs, will be held early in 2022. Following the exhibition, a ‘Global Judges’ Winner’ and ‘Global Public Vote Winner’ will be selected and awarded Global Prizes.

The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) is a charitable organisation that was founded in 2003 with a well-defined twin focus: to recognise the growing wealth of contemporary art talent in Asia and to bring the benefits of expressive arts to disadvantaged children. SAF launched The Sovereign Art Prize, now recognised as the most established and prestigious annual art award in Asia-Pacific, that same year.

The Prize increases the international exposure of artists in the region, while also raising funds by auctioning shortlisted artworks and sharing the proceeds equally between the participating artists and SAF. SAF uses the proceeds to fund programmes that support disadvantaged children. This model has so far raised over US$10 million for artists and charities worldwide.

Sovereign Isle of Man students’ art prize is back

Sovereign Isle of Man is also seeing the return of the Sovereign Art Foundation Students Prize after a break last year due to Covid. The format and prizes mirror what is set out above although entries are already closed. This year we have 20 finalists, an increase from 12 previously, and we will also be holding an auction of the finalist artworks for the first time. The exhibition and online voting will take place in October/November.
