UAE opens Corporate Tax Registration platform

The UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) invited all taxable persons that are public joint stock companies and private companies resident in the UAE to register for corporate tax purposes through the new EmaraTax digital tax services platform from 15 May.

This is in line with Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022 on the Taxation of Corporations and Businesses, which set out that taxable persons will become subject to Corporate Tax from the beginning of their first financial year that starts on or after 1 June 2023. Taxable persons must register and obtain a Tax Registration Number for corporate tax purposes.

Corporate Tax registration for free zone companies, and other categories of taxable persons, such as individuals conducting business, will be opened at a later date. Entities looking to form a Corporate Tax Group are required to register individually first, and then, at a later date, will be able to apply to group.

The FTA has also launched a dedicated Corporate Tax Virtual Workshops platform, designed to inform and support taxpayers and ensure smooth implementation of the Corporate Tax Law, which aims to strengthen the UAE’s position as a leading global centre for business and investment, and ensure compliance with international tax transparency standards.

FTA Director General Khalid Ali Al Bustani said: “The launch of the new Corporate Tax Virtual Workshops forms part of the FTA’s commitment to enhancing communication with taxpayers and all stakeholders in the UAE, as well as to provide diverse awareness channels to facilitate self-compliance with tax regulations, by setting up clear and transparent procedures.”
