Created by the federal government to promote the immigration of business people and their families,
the Canadian Immigrant Investor Program enables potential investors to obtain permanent resident
status in Canada. Under the program, successful applicants who meet certain requirements and their
families receive permanent and unconditional Canadian resident visas.

This Immigrant Investment Program is offered through our joint venture with a Canadian government
approved financial facilitator.

As of December 1st, 2010, Citizenship and Immigration Canada adopted new financial qualification
requirements. To qualify for the Canadian Immigrant Investor Program, an applicant must:

  • Have a minimum net worth of CAD$1,600,000 acquired through lawful economic activities.
  • Demonstrate business experience, either by managing and holding equity interest in a qualifying business, or by managing at least five full-time employees for at least two of the past five years, prior to the application processing.
  • Deposit CAD$800,000 with the Government of Canada for a 62 month locked-in period. In return,
the applicant will be issued a fully guaranteed, non-transferable, noninterest – bearing promissory
note. The invested capital will then be returned, without interest, at the end of the 62 month period.

The required investment of CAD$800,000 can be financed through an authorized Canadian financial

Investment Options

There are different ways to make the required investment in order to qualify for the Canadian
Immigrant Investor Program. Investors can either deposit the full amount (Full Investment), or finance
the required amount (Financed Investment) from a chartered Canadian bank.

Full Investment
The investor deposits the full amount of CAD$800,000. No further payment is required. At the end of
the 62 month period, CAD$800,000 is returned to the investor with no accrued interest.

Financed Investment
The investor pays a reduced amount*, which is used to finance a CAD$800,000 closed 62 month term
loan from a chartered bank. This loan is initiated and repaid at no further cost and without additional
guarantees from the applicant.

No further payment is required by the investor. However, the amount paid is not returned to the
investor at the end of the 62 month period.

This option is particularly attractive for applicants seeking to retain maximum capital for investment
in on-going business operations.

* This amount may change marginally, if prime lending rates in the national banking system vary in response to changes in the Bank of Canada’s key interest rate.

Citizenship Requirements

Investors and their family members who have lived in Canada for three out of four years (1095 days)
preceding the application, have adequate knowledge of English and/or French, have no criminal
record and have acquired knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, as well as an
understanding of Canada’s history, values, institutions and symbols, are eligible to apply for Citizenship.

Application Fees

Application fees are required to be paid directly to the Canadian government by the applicant.
Application fees are subject to change, therefore always contact us at for

Steps and Timeline

The application process summarized below is based on the requirements that need to be followed by
an applicant. We have outlined the procedures by combining current timelines of local government
institutions as well as the actual process our clients have experienced so far.

The procedure can be broken down into four basic steps. Some of them require the client’s
involvement, while others are executed by our immigration agent on the grounds of the power of
attorney(s) given by the main applicant. All of the steps are dependent on the successful completion
of the previous step.

  • STEP 1
File preparation and submission. Application fees are payable at this stage. Canadian Immigration Authorities will confirm the file is complete and will issue a file number.

  • STEP 2
Canadian Immigration Authorities may request additional information, documents or an interview. Medical, security and background checks will follow.

  • STEP 3
When the application is accepted, the applicant will be issued a Conditional Acceptance, followed by a request to make the investment. The applicant transfers the investment as per the selected Investment Option.

  • STEP 4
Upon completion of the investment, Federal Immigration Authorities will request for the applicant’s passport to issue the Canadian Permanent Residence Visa and request the payment of the Right of Permanent Residence Fee, following which, the applicant and their family are welcome to arrive in Canada as Permanent Residents.

The above timeline is an estimate based on our experience with previous clients and is provided for information purposes only. Any changes that may occur, which may or may not affect an applicant’s processing, will not be the responsibility of Sovereign. Governments can experience large volumes of applications, local authorities can modify required documents and/ or processing delays, are some of the factors that may affect timings. Processing times will vary depending on where the application has been filed.
