Best Wine – Portas dos Cavaleiros 1979 Branco in Magnum. Who could imagine that a Portuguese white wine could be this good and last this long. Rich, fruity and quite lovely.
Best restaurant – Belcanto in Lisbon. Two Michelin stars but a very relaxed atmosphere and one of the best restaurants in living memory. Portuguese prices too!
Best film – The Revenant. Depressing and miserable from start to finish but hugely impressive cinematography and a worthy Oscar winner.
Best Music – Laura Mvula, The Dreaming Room. Reminds Simon a bit of early Cassandra Wilson.
Best Book – How to lose friends and alienate people by Toby Young. The trials of Toby Young trying to make it as a journalist in New York – rather unsuccessfully.
